ROPE GIRLS

A Short Film for the National Circus and Fairground Archive (2025)

I produced this film with the students at Thrybergh Academy and Bramley Grange Primary School in Rotherham for the Children's Capital of Culture and the National Fairground and Circus Archive at The University of Sheffield Library.

The animation is based on the Skinning the Cat troupe, using the book written by the troupe's founder - 'Aerialist' (2018) by Rebecca Truman - alongside photos and footage from the archives as material and inspiration for the film.

I led workshops at Thrybergh and Bramley Grange with the young people as part of this project, wherein they created storyboards, the characters and backgrounds, animated the films, recorded the voice overs and made suggestions for the title cards and sound design.

I also spent a day in the archives at the University of Sheffield Library going through the material from the Skinning the Cat troupe which the young people then used as references for their own work.
